Chako was by far the sweetest dog that ever lived! He barged
through life with eager anticipation, a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face, loving everyone he saw and
everything he did. He was a joy to be with.
Chako did everything with his own special flair. He won a Group Second and Puppy Group on his way to
his Canadian Championship, and went Best of Winners at the AMCA 1995 Regional Specialty in Louisville, making him
Top Class Dog Overall that year. Chako and his brother, Miki, had a very successful year campaigned as a brace
as well, winning multiple Best Brace in Show as well as Best Brace at both the AMCC and AMCA Regional and
National Specialties.
Even though Chako was a very heavy built dog, he was extremely agile. So how about flyball? At six years of age,
Chako learned the sport of flyball easily and played for many years.
Even after retiring from the team at ten years of age (he simply could't run under six seconds anymore),
he still liked to go to
practice and show the youngsters how much fun flyball can be. He was a favourite of many
competitors, and his loud roar and bouncy attitude attracted many admirers.
Chako has passed his fine qualities on to his many outstanding
offspring, several of whom are pictured on the previous page, easily achieving his AMCA Register of Merit.
It is tragic that the side of Chako that made him special, his generous heart, was what finally took his life. Chako developed a persistant cough about a year prior to retiring from flyball, but repeated tests could not find the cause. He was finally diagnosed with an enlargment in his heart which they presumed to be malignant. There was nothing that could be done. His undauntable spirit and limitless energy just slowly ebbed away, and he slipped quietly across the bridge. A great dog, a great legacy. Thank you, Chako, for all the smiles. |
